• Beyond Spectacle Residency
1959 Was a Common Year Starting on Thursday est un projet basé sur la traduction visuelle et anglaise d'un texte théâtral, portant sur la rencontre entre le lettriste Ivan Chtcheglov et le journaliste et politicien Pierre Elliott Trudeau à Chailles, en France, en 1959. Cette rencontre est relatée dans la pièce Il faut construire l'hacienda de Jean-Marie Apostolidès (Les Impressions Nouvelles, 2006) et reprise dans le cadre d’une performance vidéo et d’une publication expérimentale issue d’un extrait de la pièce. Entre la liberté et l’internement, la diplomatie et la folie, la poétique et la politique, deux trajectoires se croisent : Trudeau à la veille de devenir Premier ministre du Canada, et Chtcheglov, au début d’un enfermement en asile, dont il ne sortira jamais.

1959 Was a Common Year Starting on Thursday is a project based in the visual and English translation of a theater script, investigating the encounter between lettrist Ivan Chtcheglov and journalist and politician Pierre Elliott Trudeau in Chailles, France in 1959. This encounter is related in the play Il faut construire l’hacienda by Jean-Marie Apostolidès (Les Impressions Nouvelles, 2006) and reinterpreted as a video performance and an experimental publication based on an extract from the play. Between exile and psychiatric internment, diplomacy and madness, art and politics, two paths meet : Trudeau, on the eve of becoming Prime Minister of Canada, and Chtcheglov, in the early days of a confinement in an asylum from which he will never reemerge.
